Leadership Theory (This I believe) Essay Example

“The point is not to become a leader. The point is to become yourself, and to use yourself completely all your gifts, skills and energies to make your vision manifest. You must withhold nothing. You must, in sum, become the person you started out to be and to enjoy the process of becoming” (Warren Bennis, On Becoming a Leader).

I believe that the main thing in leadership is the ability to inspire others. What do I mean in this sense? The ability to inspire people is the way to make them think and develop. The base of it is in respect for everybody, understanding people, showing empathy and sympathy. Inspiring is impossible without good intentions and deep knowledge of person`s internal world, wishes and desires. Only a self-confident person who knows what to do and how to do things can be such a leader. Inspiring can have a place when a leader has his/her own authentic mission and intentions. This person has to know who he/she is, what he/she needs, and strictly follow this line of behavior.

In the world history, there were such leaders. For example, Mahatma Gandhi in India, who was for his country the real leader and inspired many people to fight for an idea of independence. He knew what to do and how to do, and followed his way till the end. Deep understanding of people and respect for them let him lead his country on the way to independence. With the help of such leadership, Indians have obtained what they wanted.

For me, my father is such a leader. From my childhood, he inspires me to be better, think about my life and be a good person. He values me according to my merits. He is talking to me about my mistakes and leads me with his example to the future.

I want to be such a leader. In order to achieve this, I need to study well not only sciences in university, but also learn myself and others. I have to be attentive to people surrounding me. It plays a huge role in the sense of my future. I would like to become a Human Resource Manager. This position is based on work with different people in different situations and circumstances. The main asset of each organization is the people who are working in it. They need to develop and to be satisfied with their work. From the other side, the organization needs motivated and qualified personnel. From this point of view, Human Resource Manager has to be a leader on his/her place. This person has to know how to inspire people to work and achieve the best results for an organization. As a leader at my working place, I want to be known inside the organization as a person who knows what to do, how to do, and who respects everybody. I want to be a leader who inspires people to do the best, make them think and develop. I want to inspire people to be better.
